What is Nutrisystem D?

Nutrisystem D features delicious, portion-controlled foods specifically designed for people with type 2 diabetes as part of a low-glycemic index meal plan with the right balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat (approximately 55%, 25%, and 20% of calories, respectively) so your patients can lose weight and control their blood glucose in a nutritionally-balanced manner.

The program's educational and support materials are tailored to individuals with diabetes. Nutrisystem D customers also have free access to Certified Diabetes Educators, who are registered dietitians or registered nurses with expertise in diabetes management. These experts in diabetes nutrition and weight management are available to help your patients throughout the entirety of their weight loss and maintenance programs.

Although the Nutrisystem D program was created with patients with type 2 diabetes in mind it, is also appropriate for overweight and obese patients with type 1 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance. Because persons who follow a Nutrisystem® program consume a low-calorie diet, those on certain medications (especially insulin, sulfonylureas, and non-sulfonylurea secretagogues) may require dosage adjustments to reduce the risk of hypoglycemic events. Thus, we encourage all customers who purchase the Nutrisystem D program to discuss their enrollment with their physicians to determine whether any action is necessary.

Who would benefit most from Nutrisystem D?

• Newly diagnosed patients. A new diagnosis of diabetes can be overwhelming, with one of the first questions often being, "What can I eat?"
