I love belonging to my family and they are loving and terrific. But there is one way I don't want to belong: diabetes, which runs in my family. So when my blood work came back above normal two years in a row, I didn't need a crystal ball to predict the diabetes that would be in my future. But I couldn't blame everything on family history. I was overweight, verging on being obese. After my hysterectomy, it had become almost impossible to lose weight. Being over 50 didn't help, either. The extra weight affected my energy, my productivity and even my flexibility. For two long years I tried everything I could to lose weight on my own, without success. I just had to try something else.
Because Nutrisystem had a program focused on people with diabetes, my doctor and I thought it might be a good fit for me. My doctor said she thought that any plan that I could stick to was a good idea. So that was why I picked it–and I couldn't be happier with that decision. The fact that it was customizable made me feel I was in control within the program framework. Most importantly, the food immediately turned off my hunger switch. As a result, despite numerous parties, receptions and holidays with beautiful foods, I was never hungry and so I was never tempted. With Nutrisystem, I just had healthy, consistent, weight loss.
Now I'm proud to say that, for the first time, I'm 10 pounds below my driver's license fantasy weight. I could tell you about the usual numbers, but the most important numbers were the improved ones on my blood work. Thanks to my weight loss and increased activity, I was never quite diabetic–and I want to keep it that way. There are no guarantees, but in my crystal ball, I can now see an entirely different future for myself. As for the present, I'm much more active and energetic: I get out more, I walk more, and I swim whenever I have the chance. Plus, I get lots of compliments, and I feel younger and more like myself than I ever have in the past decade!
