At 29, I was juggling holding down a full‐time job while also attending college. My schedule had me up at all hours, either studying long into the night or working a late shift. To stay awake I relied on coffee and food—anything to keep me going. I knew my weight was slowly getting out of control but I was focused on other things. So I did the next best thing. I wore anything in black to hide my weight, including yoga pants and sweatshirts. I figured that after graduation, my schedule would lighten up, I'd relax and that the weight would just fall off. After all, that had always worked for me in the past.

With school now behind me, I was ready to focus on taking the weight off but nothing seemed to work. I tried going the no‐carb route, eating only salads for lunch and cutting out that glass of wine.
