What is the Nutrisystem® program?

Nutrisystem is a weight loss system that provides a balanced approach to eating and losing weight that helps you learn healthy habits for life. Each Nutrisystem® plan has been created by combining variety, nutrition, hunger control and convenience with 28 days' worth of perfectly portioned® food to provide you with a real life solution to weight loss, all delivered directly to your home.

Will I be hungry on the Nutrisystem® program?

The Nutrisystem® program provides a great source of protein and fiber and focuses on nutrient-dense, "low glycemic" carbohydrate choices, which help reduce blood sugar spikes and control hunger in between meals. You'll also eat often throughout the day to help keep you feeling fuller longer.

Plus, the added protein in our perfectly-portioned meals, along with many unlimited veggies and "Extras" ensure you've got the perfect recipe for hunger control.

If you find that you are experiencing hunger on our program, contact one of our counselors who can help you figure out the best strategy for you to combat your hunger and cravings.

Do I have to visit a center to participate in the Nutrisystem® program?

No. Simply order your Nutrisystem® foods online or over the phone, and they're delivered right to your home or office. Plus, you have access to a world of support and tools right from the comfort of your computer.

Can I eat out on the Nutrisystem® program?

Yes, but it is important to make wise choices, so you have access to two tools to help you stay on track with tips for making healthy choices in a variety of restaurants. First, you can go to or use the free NuMi app to get hundreds of menu suggestions at a wide variety of restaurants. In addition, you receive an Eating Out Guide included in your Welcome Kit with your first order. With these tools, you will learn to make smart choices and limit portion sizes to assure that restaurant dining does not interfere with your weight loss goal.

Do I have to exercise on the Nutrisystem® program?

Regular physical activity is an important component to lifelong weight management, and overall health and wellness. At Nutrisystem, we encourage our customers to achieve national health recommendations of 150 minutes of moderately intense physical activity each week. To help you do this, we have created the My Daily 3® plan, which focuses on achieving 30 minutes of physical activity per day.

My Daily 3 is designed to get you moving and help boost your metabolic burn for maximum weight loss results. The purpose is to help you achieve 30 minutes of physical activity each day, whether all at once or spread out over shorter sessions (10 or 15 minutes at a time), and to include strength training routines 2 days a week to work your major muscle groups and maximize health benefits.

You can find a huge list of activity suggestions, all customized to the type of activity you want to do, on or the NuMi app. These activities will help get your heart rate up, your metabolism moving, and you burning more calories. My Daily 3 also provides you with a 2-week activity agenda to get you going (if you already have a plan that works for you or want to experiment with different activities, that's fine, too).

Once you are done with your 2-week activity agenda, you can either choose to continue with the same program or branch out and start incorporating alternative forms of activity. The key to My Daily 3 is simply to help you find things that make fitness fun—so you stick with them!

Are there restrictions on who can use Nutrisystem?

People with certain conditions may not use the Nutrisystem® program; these include, but are not limited to people who: (a) are pregnant, (b) are allergic to soy, peanuts, or latex (which is used in food processing), (c) have anorexia or bulimia, (d) have chronic kidney disease, or (e) have a condition requiring a gluten-free or ketogenic diet. Children under 14 years of age may not be on the Nutrisystem program. Adolescents aged 14-17 years require a specific meal plan and physician approval. Nursing mothers also require an adjusted meal plan. Men weighing in excess of 450 lbs. and women weighing in excess of 400 lbs. require doctor approval to be on the Nutrisystem program. If I have diabetes, can I still lose weight with the Nutrisystem® program?

Yes. We know that people with diabetes have specific needs, which is why we created Nutrisystem® D®, our plan specifically designed for people with type 2 diabetes. This plan is also appropriate for people who are overweight and have type 1 diabetes, or who have pre-diabetes. The plan incorporates the Glycemic Index along with appropriate carbohydrate intake and portion control to help you lose weight so you can lower your blood sugar and manage your diabetes.

We recommend that you consult your physician before starting any weight loss or exercise program, especially if you are taking any diabetes medications, as your dosages may need to be adjusted as early as your first day on the program. Our diabetes plan is not a cure, prevention or treatment for diabetes, and is not a substitute for diabetes medications. Losing weight helps you to lower your blood sugar so you can manage your type 2 diabetes.

Is there a Nutrisystem maintenance program?

Nutrisystem offers four Transition and Maintenance plans that can help you transition from a Nutrisystem® weight loss plan to utilizing the skills you've learned to start eating on your own:

What is the sodium content in the Nutrisystem® program?

All of the Nutrisystem® programs meet, and are often below, the USDA's recommended daily intake of 2300 mg sodium or less for the general population (Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010). The actual sodium level may vary based on which plan you choose and which grocery food items you add to your plan. Some individuals may need to limit their sodium intake to 1500 mg daily. If you would like to reduce your sodium intake, please contact Nutrisystem Nutrition and Dietary Services at 1-888-849-4686 to help you customize your program.

Can I customize my order, or do I have to choose the Favorites Pack?

With Nutrisystem, you get to decide which food option works best for you.

With our Favorites Pack, we do the work for you with a preselected assortment of our most popular menu items for each meal occasion. If you'd like to try the wide array of Nutrisystem® foods or just aren’t sure where to start, this may be a good choice for your first order.

Or, if you have specific taste preferences or dietary needs, choose our Custom Menu option so you can handpick each item included with your order. That way, you have complete control over choosing the foods you love—and only the foods you love.

To customize your existing Auto-Delivery order, simply edit your menu through the Manage Orders option.

Please note: Customers who receive Fast 5+ will get a specially selected week of pre-picked breakfasts, lunches and dinners to promote greater weight loss in the first week of their program. Desserts and snacks are not included with Fast 5+. Fast 5+ is not customizable, and comes complete with its own special food Daily Tracker.

What's your return policy?

If for any reason you wish to return any unopened Nutrisystem® non-frozen food item, we'll give you a refund (less shipping), no questions asked—that's how confident we are that you'll love our food. To obtain a Return Authorization Number (RMA#) please call Customer Service at 1-800-585-5483 within 30 days of receiving your package. When you receive your RMA#, put this number on the package. Indicate the reason for your return, include the packing slip that came with your order, and wrap the package securely. Ship to the return address indicated on the shipping label. If you do not have your packing slip, please indicate the order number on a separate piece of paper, enclose in the package and send the package to the following address:

Please note: Frozen food items are not returnable and are not refundable. If you did not cancel your frozen food shipment with us and you refuse your frozen food shipment at the time of delivery, a $30 cancellation fee will be charged to your account.

How much weight will I lose the first week?

We all have that magical number in mind, but when it comes to weight loss, overnight miracles aren't on the menu; your health is. Experts agree that losing 1-2 pounds a week is a healthy and sustainable weight loss range, so keep that in mind when you set your weight loss goals and expectations. You may lose more in your first few weeks on the program, but slow and steady wins the race!

Please note: If you receive Fast 5+, you can expect to lose 5 pounds in your first week, and 1-2 pounds per week thereafter. Results vary depending on starting weight and program, adherence.

Do I need to eat vegetables and fruits while on the program?

The Nutrisystem® program combines Nutrisystem® foods with fresh grocery items for a healthy, balanced diet. Because fruits and vegetables offer nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are essential to optimal health, our program does promote eating at least 4 servings of veggies and 1-2 servings of fruit as part of your SmartCarb servings each day. In fact, because vegetables are such an important part of a healthy diet, many are available in unlimited quantities. If you feel it may be a struggle for you to get all of these fruit and vegetable servings in, contact one of our counselors, who can provide you with strategies that work with your lifestyle and food preferences.

Do I need to put my Nutrisystem® foods in the freezer or refrigerator?

Your Nutrisystem foods do not need to be refrigerated (with the exception of frozen items included with the Nutrisystem® Uniquely Yours plan, which must remain frozen). While many of the Nutrisystem entrees look a lot like frozen entrees, they're actually sealed through a "soft canning" process which locks in nutrition and taste. That way, you get fresh-tasting foods that don't require refrigeration, and are ready to go whenever and wherever you are.

Does Nutrisystem offer counseling services?

Here at Nutrisystem, we have an entire team of trained weight loss counselors available—willing and waiting to help you succeed. And since we believe weight loss is personal, you get the information and motivation you need right from the comfort of your own home, at a time that's convenient for you. Plus, our Uniquely Yours and Core plans include direct phone access to our team of trained weight loss counselors for in-the-moment support that can't be beat. What is the Auto-Delivery cancellation policy?

If you would like to cancel your Auto-Delivery program, please call 1-800-585-5483. Please note that if your program includes frozen items, Nutrisystem will attempt to cancel that portion of your order as well. You must cancel your Auto-Delivery order by 6:00 pm EST the day before your order is scheduled to begin processing. However to receive the Auto-Delivery discounted price and free shipping within the Continental U.S., you must remain on the Auto-Delivery program for at least 2 shipments. If you cancel prior to paying for your second consecutive 28-Day program delivery, your payment method will be charged for Continental U.S. shipping and the amount of any Auto-Delivery discount received on your first 28-Day program delivery. For Uniquely Yours orders, your payment method will also be charged a $30 cancellation fee if you: (1) do not cancel the frozen food before shipping; and (2) refuse the frozen food upon delivery. This charge will appear on your payment method within 8 weeks of your cancellation. Call a Nutrisystem customer service representative to obtain your Auto-Delivery cancellation confirmation number. Please note your funds may be held by your financial institution for up to five business days after cancellation of your order. Contact your financial institution for further details. Is the Nutrisystem® program low carb?

The Nutrisystem® plan features "good carbs" (low glycemic), but it is not a low carb meal plan.
